Elijah William Clarke, age 72, passed away at his home near Walnut Point, Saturday last at 10 p.m., after a long illness, having been confined to his room most of the time for the past 10 years. He was a most consecrated Christian, devoted husband and father and a kind neighbor, always bright and cheerful although handicapped, his voice having left him several years ago. Besides his widow, he is survived by one son, Lester R. Clarke and one brother T.W. Clarke and many nieces and nephews that were very fond of him. Monday, at 2 p.m. his body was taken to Gibeon Church Cemetery with a short service conducted by his pastor, Rev. Millard Thrift, assisted by Rev. Cahoon and his body was laid tenderly away beneath a blanket of most beautiful flowers. Hobson Jones was undertaker and pallbearers were active, Willard Lloyd, Harold and Leonard Clarke, James and Fuller Beatley. Honorary, Eddie, Luther and Walton Lewis, Eddie Cralle, Rod Headley, Randolph, Brent and Garnett Harris, Loran Clarke, Paul Dawson, Luther Dawson, Otis Dawson, Harry Dawson, Albert Scott, Nelson Clarke, Ralph Hundley, Herbert Clarke, Otis Lowery, Charles Balderson, Jennings Lewis and Willie Edwards.
