Funeral for James A. Blackburn, 71, Spanish-American War Veteran, who died at 5 pm, Friday at his home at South Watauga, will be at 3 pm, Monday in the chapel at Mountain Home. Chaplain Harry T Wright and the Rev. Harry Leonard will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain Home Cemetery.
Military Honors will be accorded at the grave.
The body will remain at the South Watauga home until 1 pm when it will be taken to the Mountain Home chapel.
Pallbearers, in addition to military unites, include Landon Pierce, Bill Lacey, Edd Millard, and Spencer Blackburn, Wiley Grindstaff, A. J. Holden, Paul Wagner and J. B. McKinney.
Born March 7, 1879 at Doeville, Blackburn joined the U.S. Army in 1898, serving two years in the Spanish-American War with Tennessee Infantry volunteers, Company "E", Third Regiment. He has been a resident of South Watauga for 35 years.
He was twice married, first to Mary Louise Walters of Cherokee, who died in 1925, and thento Marth Moore, who survives him. Other survivors are a son, Glen S Blackburn of Oak Ridge; a granddaughter, Louise Blackburn, also of Oak Ridge; four sisters, Mrs. Julia Archer of Jonesboro, Mrs. Vertie Cambel, Mrs. Ottie Wilson, Mrs. Nell Patterson; and a brother, Oscar Blackburn, all of Johnson City.
