Clara was born Aug. 4, 1917, on Bee Ridge in McDowell County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Cam and Hannah Keen Webb. She was a homemaker, a member of the Church of Christ, and the last surviving member of her original family. She was a loving mother and grandmother and loved to cook for her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Hirsel Christian in 1965 and Ural Bandy in 1990; two daughters, Dorothy A. Christian and Carlie Justus; two sons, Harold Austin Christian and Earnest L. Christian; two brothers, Charlie Webb and Newt Webb; a half brother, Eli Webb; four sisters, Victoria Jewell, Rhoda Kidd, Lucille Whittaker and Annabell Webb; a half sister, Ruby Sage; a son-in-law, Leon Justus; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Marie Russell and husband Johnny of Abingdon, Va., Brenda Bailey and husband James, with whom she made her home, of Bland County, Va., and Linda Serra and husband George of Abingdon; three sons, Farley Christian and wife Linda of Tazewell, Va., James Hobert Christian and wife Irene of Natural Bridge, Va., and Earl David Christian and wife Peggy of Fredericksburg, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Emma Jean Christian of Caretta; 29 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Ann, with Total Hospice of Bluefield, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 18, 2009, at 1 o'clock at the chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, with the Rev. Darrell Long officiating. Burial will follow in the Christian Cemetery on Rock Ridge near Paynesville.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday, May 17, 2009, from 6 to 9 p.m.
