Betty B. DeShaw, 84, of 1050 Fourth Ave. SE, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, in Living Center West following an extended illness. Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Stewart Funeral Home, by Deacon Phillip Saunders of St. Matthew Catholic Church. Burial: Oliphant Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to service time Friday at the funeral home. Survivors include two sons, Jerry of Aitken, Minn., and Raymond of California; two daughters, Judie Leidigh and Mary Lou Evans, both of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Hartzell Oliphant of Cedar Rapids; and three sisters, Bonnie Hutchcroft, Fonda Kauffman and Linda Hughes, all of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Mary DeShaw of Anamosa; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Lyle and Franklin; one grandson, Franklin Jr.; a brother, LaVerne; and a sister, Opal. Betty was born June 4, 1920, in Center Point, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Birdie Trimble Oliphant. On Jan. 13, 1945, she married Franklin DeShaw. He died in 1985. In 1956, she moved to Aitken, Minn., where she lived until 2000, when she returned to Cedar Rapids.
