George Cable, 71, 623 East Logan, retired from the Moberly Police Dept., died unexpectedly Wednesday night at Moberly Regional Medical Center-North where he had been a patient about 12 hours. He had been in failing health for some time.

He was born near Clark, June 2, 1909, son of Charles and Elizabeth Cannon Cable and had lived in Moberly the past 30 years.

Mr. Cable retired from the police department about 1970.

He was a member of the Carpenter Street baptist Church.

Surviving are the wife, Ilene of the home; two sons, George Allen Cable, Clark; and Victor Cable, Moberly; daughter, Elizabeth Cable, Moberly; two brothers Fred and Donald, both of Clark; two sisters, Mrs. Edgar (Carlene) Lewis, and Mrs. Floyd (Opal) Smith, both of Moberly; and a grandson.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cater Funeral Home, with Jim Smith, Danville, Ill., pastor of the First Assembly of God Church at Danville, officiating. He is a nephew of Mr. Cable.

Burial will be in Chapel Grove Cemetery at Clark.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today.

Four couples were granted marriage licenses at the office of Circuit Clerk Al G. Bloom late Tuesday afternoon and evening, the same being issued to Jesse W. Greene and Mary A. Crutchfield both of Moberly; Geroge Cable and Evelyn Sartain, both of Moberly; Joe Bryant and Fonda Smith, both of Moberly; Thomas A. Barnes and Mae Dean Fowlkes, both of Moberly.

Miss Evelyn Sartain and George Cable were married here Christmas Eve at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gentry Bailey, 724 South williams street. The Rev. E.V. Lamb, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated, using the ring ceremony.
The bride wore a georgette dress of royal blue with matching accessories. The gown was of princess type, skirt falling in long points. She is the youngest daughter of John sartain and Mr. Cable's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cable, Clark. The newlyweds will live here.
Members of the immediate family were the only guests at the wedding.
