Garth "Goob" Addison of Lipan went home to be with Jesus and his many cherished family and friends who preceded him on Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2011 at Allison Baptist Church, 9926 Allison Court, Lipan. Burial: Allison Cemetery near Lipan. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday September 8, 2011 at Wiley Chapel in Lipan. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Allison Baptist Church Building Fund, 9931 Allison Court, Lipan, Texas, 76462.
Goob was born February 14, 1918, to Jewel Waldrup Addison and William M. "Bill" Addison. On December 23, 1944, he married Geniva Queen Addison who preceded him in death on March 9, 1996. Goob was a lifelong resident of Lipan. He attended school at the small rural community school at Allison, outside Lipan, until his senior year. He attended his senior year and graduated from Dennis School. Since he was unable financially to attend college, he went an additional year to Lipan School taking additional courses. Goob was a farmer and rancher all of his adult life having been raised on a farm and having a love of the land. Goob and his brother, Vaughn, were partners in farming and ranching for over 50 years. In addition, together with Geniva and their son, Dan, they worked at various cattle auctions in this area. It was here that many lifelong friendships were formed along with the many friendships in Lipan and particularly the community of Allison. Goob and Geniva treasured these friendships and Dan continues to treasure them. Goob and Geniva together performed the duties of treasurer of Allison Baptist Church for over 40 years. Goob also served as a deacon of Allison Baptist Church until his failing health prevented him from continuing active service. It was at this time that he was designated Deacon Emeritus by the church.
Special thanks are given to Deborah McDonald and her family who lovingly served as his caregivers for over eight years, as well as the nurses and aides at Granbury Care Center who made his final days as comfortable as possible and always tried to put a smile on his face.
Garth was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two brothers, Vaughn Addison and R.W. Addison; mother-in-law and father-in-law, B.W. "Pete" and Ada Queen; a brother-in-law, Jerry Queen; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Martha Tipton Queen.
Garth was a quiet and reflective man, a wonderful father and a great friend. He had a sense of humor that allowed him to enjoy family and friends and this is one of the many things that we will miss until we are all reunited with him again in heaven.
Survivors: Son, Dan Addison of Lipan; his very special adopted great-grandchildren, Paxton Murry and Hayes Murry, both of Lipan; sisters-in-law, Betty Addison of Lipan and Geraldine "Jerri" Addison of Lipan; niece, Ann Addison Stobaugh and husband, David, of Lipan; four nephews, John Addison of Abilene, Rusty Addison and wife, Tammy, of Lipan, Guy Queen of Granbury, Stan Queen and wife, Francis, of Granbury; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and many treasured friends.
