William Madison Brashear, 67, retired farmer of Sandcreek township, died this morning at 6:10 o'clock at his home in Azalia following a long illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the East Columbus Christian church conducted by the Rev. S. R. Walter, of Azalia. Burial will be in the Springer cemetery.
Mr. Brashear was born in Glencoe, Ky., Aug. 3, 1844 and was the third child of a family of 12. At the age of 31 he came to Indiana and on Oct. 23. 1878, he was married to Miss Mary Ann Waits, who preceded him in death 31 years ago.
For many years he engaged in farming near Elizabethtown, and was prominently known in the county. Following the death of the wife and mother, Mr. Brashear's only daughter kept the family together for a number of years, and later Mr. Brashear went to Utah and California. Four years ago he returned to this county and had been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Scott Hines, in Azalia.
Surviving are four children, Mrs. Hines, James H. Brashear, of Los Angeles, Cal.; Holton L. Brashear, of Long Beach, Cal., and Charles Brashear, of Ogden, Utah, and the following brothers and sisters: James and George Brashear, Mrs. E. P. Taylor and Mrs. William Hendrix, of Glencoe, Ky. Ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.
