WORLD WAR I VETERAN

Francis N. Kanavan was born in July 16, 1883 in Tacoma, Washington. His father was Thomas Kanavan who had been born in Ireland and Elizabeth Jane Rigney, born in Steilacoom, Washington. He was five foot nine inches tall and had a fair complexion.

MILITARY RECORD:
Enlisted January 25, 1908 in Seattle, Washington in the regular Army. Honorably discharged January 1911 at Seattle. Enlisted October 1915 in San Francisco, California. Assigned to Coast Artillery. Honorably discharged April 1924 at San Francisco, California. Pension awarded on Certificate No. 1,545,395.

He was a member of the National Military Home in Dayton, Ohio from 1940 to 1943. He received a civil service pension from his government job as a storekeeper in Dayton. He also received a railroad retirement.

He was married to Mary Ellen on May 6, 1956. He was a member of the Orting Soldiers' Home in 1963. He transferred to the Washington Veterans' Home at Retsil on July 11, 1966. He died in June 1967 at the Veterans' Home and Mary Ellen died at the Veterans' Home Hospital on October 7, 1968.

He was survived by a daughter, Mae Pollard, Seattle. He listed a brother, Robert E. Kanavan of Orting.
