Maurice Preston Halley, 63-year-old Centerview rural mail carrier, died Saturday morning in his car while carrying mail on his regular route. He was found at 11:20 o'clock that morning on the Briar Bottom road, southeast of Centerview, by Russell Arwood. The motor was running, his foot was on the brake, and a letter in his hand. Apparently he had been dead only a short time.

Mr. Halley had not been well for some time but insisted that was able to carry his mail. His death was caused by heart trouble.

The funeral was held this afternoon at the Sweeney-Phillips chapel, the Rev. Herbert D. Woodruff, pastor of the Christian Church, officiating. Burial was in Sunset Hill and the pallbearers were E. N. Hershey, S. M. Stanley, Lee Adair, Harley Stewart, Charley Ruppert and Claude Grainger, all of Centerview

Born August 22, 1895, in Saline County, Mr. Halley was a son of William Preston and Clara May Lewis Halley. He had lived at Centerview 31 years. Mr. Halley and Jessie Jarman were married August 19, 1923 at Pittsville and were parents of three children, who with their mother survive. Mr. Halley also leaves his father of Centerview.

The children are: Mrs. Robert Tackett, Warrensburg; Dee of Centerview and Jane of the home. There are five grandchildren, and a brother, Alfred, also of Centerview.

Mr. Halley was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
