According to his obituary, William's parents were Stephen Ferguson and Ellen Craddock.

On the US and International Marriage Records 1560-1900, his mother's name is listed Eleanor Grotty (possibly Crotty), marrying Stephen Ferguson 1843. On her application for Stephen on the War of 1812, she is listed as Ellen C. Ferguson.

William's first marriage was to Sarah Jane Divers in Virginia. His second marriage was to Mary Elizabeth Herring on 29 May 1899 in New Bloomfield, Callaway County, Missouri.

Dr. J.H. Harrison, of Mexico, pronounced death caused by Apoplexy contributed to by Senility and Arteriosclerosis. Informant was Raymond Ferguson of Auxvasse.

William was born January 19, 1846, in Franklin County, Virginia, the son of Stephen and Ellen (Craddock) Ferguson. He married Mary E. Ferguson and she survives. William was a retired farmer.

Arrangements were under the direction of Hughes Maupin of Auxvasse. Burial was in the Bachelor Cemetery.

W.M. Ferguson, of Auxvasse, Ex-Confederate Died This Week.

Funeral services for William Mayberry Ferguson of Auxvasse, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.R. Spradlin, in Mexico, Wednesday afternoon, were held Friday morning at 11:00 o'clock, at Friendship Church at Bachelor. Burial was in the cemetery of that church.

Mr. Ferguson was 84 years old, having been born in Franklin county, Virginia, January 19, 1846. He was married December 26, 1866 to Miss Sarah J. Divers, who died in 1897. He was married a second time March 29, 1899, to Miss Mary E. Herring of New Bloomfield and she survives. He also leaves five daughters and two sons.

Mr. Ferguson had lived in Callaway county for many years, coming to this state at the close of the Civil War, during which he fought in the Confederate Army. He had been a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge for fifty years.
