Mrs. Rachel Ashley, 89, died at 6:55 P.M. wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Srildia smythe on Powell Street at Appalachia after a brief illness. Mrs. Ashley was a lifelong resident of Appalachia. Surviving are three sons: Edd Ashley, Appalachia., Fred Ashley, East Stone Gap., and Ernest ashley, King,s mountain, Va., two daughters: mrs. Srildia Smythe and Allie Thompson, both of Appalachia: 35 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 P.M. Saturday at Roy A. Greene Funeral Chapel at Appalachia., the Rev. R. Gleaves Farmer officiated. Burial was made in American Legion Cemetery.
