Minnie Jurgensen-Karloff
YUTAN – Wilhelmina Josephina "Minnie" Jurgensen-Karloff, 103, died Friday, May 5, 2009 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha.
She was born Aug. 29, 1905 in Yutan to George and Katherina (Lineau) Reese. The youngest of 10 children, Minnie grew up in Yutan and attended school at District No. 7 through the 8th grade.
She married Arthur Jurgensen on Nov. 1, 1922. They were married for 56 years and lived in Ashland until Arthur's death in 1979. She remarried Louis Karloff on Oct. 3, 1982. They were married nearly 12 years and lived in Yutan until Louis' death in 1994.
She was a member of the Wann Ladies Aid and was involved with St. John's Lutheran Church in Yutan. She loved baking, gardening, sewing, quilting, watching baseball and playing cards. She worked for a time as a checker at IGA and Harold's Supermarket, but her lifelong calling was to be a loving and supportive wife and mother. She was happiest with a slice of pie and a good game of cards. She was proud of the long life she had led, blessed with nearly 104 years. She lived on her own for a little over 100 years followed by nearly 3 years enjoying the company of her daughter, Darlene, dog, Dragon, while "putting up" with her granddaughter. Minnie was grateful and proud of the opportunity to attend the finals of the 2007 College World Series at the age of 101, and for surviving two hip replacement surgeries at the age of 95. Her family and her health were the most important things to Minnie, and she will be remembered for her impish grin and her witty sense of humor. She was a simple, pleasant woman who had a wonderful life and will be missed tremendously!
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Arthur Jurgensen and Louis Karloff; siblings, Henry, Herman, Louise, Emma, Anna, William, Bertha and sons-in-law, Denman Odorisio and Jess Johnson.
She is survived by her daughters; Darlene Odorisio of Omaha and Maxine Johnson of Los Angeles, Calif.; sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Lucy Jurgensen of Omaha and Keith and Bonnie Jurgensen of Ashland; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held May 14, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yutan, Rev. Glenn Schacht officiating.
Interment was held at Hollst Lawn Cemetery, Yutan.
Memorials may be made to the Yutan Fire and Rescue Squad or the charity of your choice.
Arrangements by Reichmuth Funeral Home, Yutan.
