He was born November 17,1857 in Hanover, Germany. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Bruns and came to this country when he was 9 years old, settling first in Elgin, Illinois and then moving to Waverly, Iowa.
He married Pauline Bathke December 26,1881 at Sumner and lived in Waverly since then except for 10 years in South Dakota and 3 years in Oklahoma. He was a carpenter and a painter.
Surviving are his wife, three sons, Herman Henry Bruns of Van Buren, Arkansas, Johann Friedrick Bruns of Waterloo, Iowa, and Anton Carl Bruns of Waverly Iowa; Two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Rice of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Mrs. Maria Atkins of Hammond, Indiana. A brother, Anton Bruns of Waverly; 26 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Services were held at St.Pauls Luthern Church by Kaiser Funeral Home.
