SENECA--Wilfred J. "Bill" Fienhage, 81, Seneca, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at home.
He was born Jan. 1, 1918, near Baileyville to John and Mary Vondemkamp Fienhage. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service 12 years before he retired.
He enlisted in the 17th Infantry at Fort Leavenworth in August 1936 and remained with that unit through WW II. He served in the Pacific and received the Combat Infantry Badge, two Bronze Stars, the Presidential Unit Citation Asiatic-Pacific Medal with four battle stars and the Phillippine Liberation Medal with two battle stars. He was a chief warrant officer.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the K of C Council No. 1769, both in Seneca. He was a life member of VFW and Earle W. Taylor Post No. 21 of the Am. Legion in Seneca. He was a former member of the board of directors and treasurer of the Seneca Library eight years and was a member of the Seneca Golf Club since 1960.
He was instrumental in organizing Community National Bank in Seneca and served as a director for three years.
He married Rita Henry on Jan. 30, 1946. She died June 11, 1987.
Survivors include sons Bill and John; daughters Caroline Viene and Diane Morrow, both in KcMo., Jean Holthaus, Topeka and Mary Neal, Axtell; a brother, John, San Francisco; sisters, Margaret Buessing and Roberta Oenbring, both in Axtell, and Grace Fienhage, Portland, Ore.; and eight grandchildren.
Mr. Fienhage was cremated. Memorial Mass will be at 10:20 Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul Church with burial in the church cemetery.
