James Anderton Died Friday at Age of 93 Year
James Anderton passed away at the home of his niece Mrs. H. S. Bell of Monroe, Friday at 8:30 a. m. of causes incident to old age.
At the ripe old age of 93 years Mr. Anderton was the oldest person in his district and possessed the same optimistic views in his declining years that he displayed in the early 70's when, among other pioneers, he took part in dramatics and other forms of entertainment.
Born at Wigan, Lancashire, England, December 17, 1840, he came to America when a young man after joining the church. He crossed the plains with an emigrant train in 1863. He settled in Monroe and assisted in building the town. His wife died a number of years ago. He had no near relatives living at the time of his death.
Funeral services were held in the North ward chapel Sunday at 2 p. m. Bishop A. C. Lundgreen conducting. The ward choir, under direction of F. B. Goold, furnished musical numbers. Speakers were Joseph H. Jensen, Hans Tuft, E. M. Jensen and Bishop Lundgreen, Mrs. Louis Andrerton's read a sketch of Mr. Anderson's life. The invocation was offered by J. M. Larsen, Charles H. Bohman gave the benediction. W. O. Lundgreen dedicated the grave in the Monroe cemetery.
