As a widow at nineteen years old, and with a nineteen month old baby, Keturah, she came to Wis. A year later in 1869 she married Milton Clark. She was known to the John J. Clark family as Aunt Jane. She was the first person known in that area to have short bobbed hair. She would rock in her rocking chair, smoking a corn cobbed pipe listening to Milton play the fiddle. Smoking a pipe would always embarrass the family, but she said she did it so because of her asthma. Her favorite song on a cylinder record was "Oh Them Golden Slippers", which she played over and over again.
