She was born Aug. 26, 1904, in Burlington, Ark, to David and Tabitha (Bedford) Pruitt. She was the youngest of 10 children, having seven brothers and two sisters.
Argil and her parents came to Oregon in 1911 and lived one year in Bonanza. After returning to Missouri for a few years they came back to Oregon in 1916 and owned a store in Merlin. She attended school in Merlin and Grants Pass, graduating from Grants Pass High School in 1923. After graduating, she worked at the Josephine County Courthouse.
Argil met her husband, Otis R. Stanbery, at the Baldwin Hotel, which, at that time, was owned by her sister and brother-in-law, Cordie and Andy Moore. They were married at her parents' home in Grants Pass on Nov. 6, 1928, and established their home in Klamath Falls.
After her husbands death in 1963, Argil worked at a neighborhood grocery store and then at the Star Drug Store on Main Street. She was active in PTA during her daughters' school years and was a volunteer for the Red Cross and Merle West Medical Center Guild, and was a member of First Christian Church, the Aloha Chapter of Eastern Star and the Nile Club.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Lou McSweeney and Arlene Lundgren; four grandchildren and 11 great grand-children. In addition toher husband she was preceded in death by her two sons-in-law, Patrick McSweeney and Roy Lundgren, her parents and all of her siblings.
Private family services were held and she was cremated and buried with her husband at Klamath Memorial Cemetery.
