Deward Worth Cagle, 96, of Lorena, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at a local care center. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at Seventh & James Baptist Church with Dr. David Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 15, at OakCrest Funeral Home.

Deward was born in Moody, Texas, to the late Alonzo and Alpharetta (Dixon) Cagle. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. His first wife, Rubynette, passed away in 1997. He married his second wife, Jane, in 2001.

Deward was a Postal Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 28 years of faithful service. After retirement he worked at the Baylor University Bookstore for several years.

He was a member of the Baylor Senior Adult Choir and served as a Deacon at Seventh & James Baptist Church for many years. For 20 years, Deward was a member of the Kim's Friday Night Hamburger Club. In his free time, he greatly enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

Deward was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Jane; sons, Steve Cagle and wife, Mary, of Dallas, and Tim Cagle and wife, Glenda, of Mineola; daughters, Jeanette Stone and husband, Charles, of Riesel, and Martha Halverson and husband, Jim, of Frankenmuth, MI; grandchildren, Nancy Ward and husband, Brian, Kyle Stone and wife, Amy, Doug Cagle, Katy Cagle, John Cagle, Luke Cagle, and Philip Halverson; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Madeline Ward; and several nieces and nephews.
