RICHARD was the son of PAUL PHILLIP and GENEVA MILLER of Rural Route 1, ASHWORTH ROAD, West Des Moines. Geneva was the daughter of ANDREW M. MILLER and DORA B. ASHWORTH, who was in turn, the daughter of Valley Junction Pioneer family, ABRAHAM and MARY ELLEN MOTT ASHWORTH. ABRAHAM was an early ENGLISH settler in the area, for whom the road and other local landmarks were named.
Richard is remembered as a gentle, loving father to his family and a concened relative to the rest of his clan.
He was a long time Engineer with the railroad. In fact, Fay Ernest Schlotfeldt, step-son of his brother, PAUL ALBERT MILLER recalls first meeting Richard at a railroader's hotel in Rock Island, Illinois at the end of one of his "runs".
Fay had tried to locate where the remains of Richard and Ruth's son, WESLEY DALE MILLER, were interred after he was Killed-In-Action in the Punchbowl during the Korean War. He enlisted the help of the Marine Corps Assn. and the Department of Veteran's Affairs with no success. His death is recorded in the National Memorial.
With the help of the Marine Corps Assn. a Find-a-Grave Memorial was been established with the number of 76286010,
for those who may search for him in the future. In May of 2012 Fay made another search on Memorial Day and found that a kind person in Des Moines had posted a headstone Memorial from Glendale Cemetery. # 79665785 to which Fay has now posted this family picture.
Richard is fondly remembered by all who knew him.
