Was employed by the Union Pacific Rail Road, serving as Section Gang Foreman. He wanted so badly to join the military, but this was during the war and anyone who worked for the railroad was kept from joining as the railroad was needed for the war effort. So he served his county by helping to keep the railroad running.

Mr Dawley, one of his employee's liked him so much he invited him to Sunday dinner. While having dinner with the Dawley's he met their daughter Alice Maude Dawley.

They fell in love and were married on December 23 1918 in Rupert, Idaho. He was 29 and she 21. He brought her to Ogden, Utah to meet his family on their honeymoon and then to San Francisco.
Sometime later, Fred received the promotion of Signal Maintanier with the railroad. He was transfered to Ogden, Utah and bought his wife her first new home, located at 116 30th street. This new home was so close to his job that he walked to work to and from each day.
They had one daughter of this union, Marlene Paine and
One nephew they raised from abt 15 months old to adulthood.

Fred loved fishing and baseball games.
He is buried in the Paine Family Plot.
