Services for Alex K. Miller, 78, of Lubbock will be at 5 p.m. Monday at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Foster Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors.

He died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 9, 1921, in Abilene. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1938. He married Durelle Mead on Aug. 20, 1939, in Big Spring. He served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. He was the vice president of Mead's Fine Bread Company, president of Miller-Howard Office Supply, co-founder, with his wife, of Amco Medical Service and co-founder of Miller-Waldrop Furniture. He also founded Skylights of West Texas, Amco Gutters Inc. and Custom Closets, Etc., and was a licensed Realtor and developer. He served on the board of directors of the MED Group, Milam's Children's Training Center, the United Way, Habitat for Humanity, and the Community Planning Council. He served as the president of the Downtown Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Southwest Lubbock Rotary Club. He served as a deacon of the First Baptist Church in Roswell, N.M., and of the Royal Lane Baptist Church and Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas. He served as the fourth chairman of the deacons and a member of the Leadership Team of the Second Baptist Church.
