Sallie was the daughter of Dr. Reuben Samuel Davis and his second wife, Tamar Susan (Heare) Davis.

Sallie [1st] married Charles F. Abell (c.1867 - 20 Aug 1899) on 11 Mar 1894 in Hampshire County, West Virginia.

Charles died of Typhoid Fever and brain trouble in Slanesville, Hampshire County, West Virginia. His occupation was a "blacksmith."

In the 1900 U.S. Census, Sallie was living in Hampshire County, West Virginia, with her sons, Floyd and Glenwood. She was living in the next household from her father and his third wife.

Sallie [2nd] married David Granville Poland (8 May 1860 - 16 Dec 1850) on 7 Aug 1907 in Hampshire County, West Virginia, as his second wife.

David has [1st] married Mary Frances (Alverson) Poland (23 Mar 1852 - 20 Jan 1902). She was the daughter of Armistead M. Alverson and Margaret C. (Pepper) Alverson.

In the 1910 U.S. Census, David and Sallie were living in New Creek, Mineral County, West Virginia.

David and Sallie divorced and she went back to using ‘Abell' as her surname.

In the 1920 U.S. Census, Sallie was living in Summit County, Ohio, with the family of her son, Floyd, and she says she is a widow. In 1920, David was living in Berkeley County, West Virginia, and he says he is a widower.

In the 1930 U.S. Census, Sallie was living in Allegany County, Maryland, with the family of her son, Floyd. She says she is divorced.

Sallie had been living with her brother in Kirby for about 6 months before her death. The informant on her death certificate, was R.F. Davis.

1) Floyd Vyron Abell (born 5 Feb 1895) was born in Hampshire County, West Virginia. He married Vallie Victoria (Bowman) Abell (born 21 Sept 1896). In 1942 when he registered for the U.S. Draft, Floyd was living in Cresaptown, Allegany County, Maryland.

2) Glenwood Abell (born Apr 1898) was not living with his mother and step-father in the 1910 U.S. Census.
