Gerald V. Wright, 73, of Defiance died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 1988 at Missouri Baptist Hospital. He was born Aug. 2, 1915 in Tuscumbia to Lawrence Alfred and Carmen Ercell Bassman Wright. On Dec. 19, 1936 he was married in Eldon to Gladys B. Condra, who survives.

Mr. Wright was a 1940 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia with a degree in farm management and animal husbandry. For the 17 years before his retirement Mr. Wright was superintendent of the University of Missouri Weldon Spring Research Center, where he performed crop and animal experiments.

Mr. Wright was a member of the Harvester Christian Church in Harvester and was a former elder at the St. Charles Christian Church. He also was involved with FFA and the Boy Scouts.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Jerrilyn) Bergfeld of St. Charles County; a son, L.A. Wright of Texarkana, Tex.; a brother, Lloyd Wright of Phoenix; two sisters, Dorothy Nichols of Phoenix and Doris Clemens of Lee's Summit; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Harvester Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Hutchison officiating. Burial was held at 3 p.m. at the Tuscumbia Cemetery under the direction of Baue Funeral Home of St. Charles. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harvester Christian Church Altar Fund, c/o Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson St., St. Charles, Mo. 63301.
