Austin was the son of Joshua Crosby and Eliza Ashley found in the 1860 and 1870 census of Deerfield Township, Chickasaw County, Iowa.
He married to Cynthia M. Beard.
They appear in the 1880 census of Deerfield, Township, Chickasaw County, Iowa. He was a farmer.
In 1900 and 1910 they were in Chickasaw Township, Chickasaw County, Iowa.
In 1930 Austin was living widowed with his son in Rosebud County, Montana.
