01 Jun 1900 - John is 24, living in Godfrey, Bibb County, GA and is a railroad laborer. He is single, and living in his father's home along with his widowed sister Margaret & her three children and his siblings Edna and Leonard. His neighbors include his brother William & William's wife Mary and the family of his future bride, Hattie Bloodworth. John and his dad cannot read or write, but his siblings William and Margaret can.

26 March 1902 - John marries Hattie Magdaline Bloodworth in Bibb County, GA. He is 25, she is 14. About August 1, 1904, their daughter Alma is born. On August 27, 1904, Hattie tragically passes away at the age of 17. On September 5, 1904, Alma also passes away. John buries them in the Bloodworth plot of Cedar Ridge Cemetery. In 1910, John will sadly bury his daughter Adelle there also.

20 Sep 1905 - John marries Hattie Pauline Hollis in Bibb County, GA. He is 28, she is 22. From 1905-1918, John & Hattie live in Macon, GA and the city directories list John's occupation as blacksmith. In 1918, John & Hattie are living in Chattanooga, TN according to his WWI draft registration papers. John is a blacksmith, missing his left eye, of medium height and build with blue eyes. Sadly, John and Hattie bury another child while in Tennessee, little Walker who was born in 1913 in Georgia and who passes away in 1918.

From 1920-1935, they are living in Macon again (city directories & censuses. By 1940 they are living in the warmth of West Palm Beach, FL.
