OBITUARY AND ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION ABOUT BLANCHE WHITE.

OBITUARY:
Blanche M. Kennedy, daughter of Mr. and, Mrs. Charles Kennedy, was born in Janesville, Wisconsin, February 12, 1878, and passed away Sunday, August 27, 1933, at the Baker hospital in LaCrosse at the age of 55 years, 5 months and 15 days. At the age of one year she moved with her parents to Jewell Co., Kansas, making her home near Esbon. In 1895 [actually February, 1897] she was married to George Alspaugh [Alfpah]. To this union one son was born, Lloyd K. (December 15, 1897), with whom she has made her home for the past 11 years. October 15, 1901, she was married to Robert F. White who passed away November 20, 1921. To this union two girls were born, Mrs. Margaret Mishler of Ransom, and Mrs. Leona Eisenhour of Ness City. She also leaves to mourn her loss four brothers, Ernest of Esbon, Kansas; Wayne of Lebanon, Kansas; William of Siloam, Oklahoma, and Delmar of Torrington, Wyoming. Also a little granddaughter.

She was a kind friend and loving mother and will be greatly missed by her passing to the great beyond. Loving hands done everything in their power to prolong her life, but it was God's will that she should be taken. She became a Christian in early life.

Funeral services were held in the Fitzgerald funeral home conducted by Henry B. Bondurant assisted by Rev. Hall, of Ransom, after which interment was made in the Ness City cemetery.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:

Blanche Minerva Kennedy attended the one-room Lone Tree grade school in Odessa Township, Jewell County, Kansas. Her close friend in school was Minta Barnett. They went to dances and various other social functions together. Minta married Blanche's brother David "Ern" Kennedy.

Blanche Kennedy age 19 married George Alfpah age 22 on February 24, 1897 at Dentonia, Kansas (from Jewell County, Kansas marriage records—Blanche's friend Minta married Blanche's brother Ern on the same day in Mankato, Kansas). At the time of the US census in June, 1900, Blanche and George Alfpah (incorrectly listed as Alfpang in the census) were living in the household of Robert White who was a single man age 50 and farming on a rented farm. George was working as a farm laborer and Blanche as housekeeper. They had been married three years and had a two-year old son, Lloyd.

In November, 1900 Blanche filed for divorce from George Alfpah and was granted the divorce on March 22, 1901 (from the District Court records in Jewell County, Kansas). On October 15, 1901 Blanche M. Kennedy age 23 married her former employer Robert White age 50 in Mankato, Kansas (from Jewell County, Kansas marriage records). Blanche and Robert lived in various places. They were in Buffalo Township, Jewell County, Kansas in 1905; Clinton, Missouri in 1910; Odessa Township, Jewell County with Blanche's parents in 1915; and Ness County, Kansas in 1920, where Robert died in 1921.

Blanche's first husband George Alfpah apparently changed his name when he came to Jewell County, Kansas. His name was given as Alfpah in the marriage license and divorce records in Jewell County and in a draft registration in 1918 in South Dakota, as well as in the 1895 Kansas census for Jewell County. However, the census records for the entire U.S. and all census years have no other records for anyone with the name Alfpah. In addition, there are no census records for a George Alfpaugh or Alspaugh or any similar name who was born in New York in 1874 as was claimed by this George in the 1900 and 1910 US censuses and in the 1918 draft registration. If his goal was to change his name to make it impossible to track his background, he was successful. George did not contest the divorce and did not appear at the divorce trial. Newspaper articles indicate that he was working in Jewell County during the period 1905–1907. He was in North Dakota at the 1910 census and in South Dakota for the draft registration in 1918.
