Obituary, Grand Coulee Star Newspaper:

Fred S. Rice, Jr., 49, of Grand Coulee, died Tuesday in the hopsital at Brewster. Born Sept. 7, 1920 in Coulee City, he grew up on a ranch in the Delrio area and attended school at Fiddle Creek and Grand Coulee.

He worked on the construction of Grand Coulee Dam, and at one time drove the school bus in the Delrio area for eight years. He engaged in wheat and cattle ranching and did mechanic work for himself and many neighbors.

Mr. Rice was a member of the Rex Grange, the Cattlemen's Association, Washington Wheat Growers Assn. and National Riflemen's.

Surviving are his widow, Vera, a son, Ray of Othello, one daughter, Darlene Dittmer, Grand Coulee; his sister, Nettie Herman of Moses Lake; and his mother, Susie Rice of Grand Coulee.

William Barnes, Grand Coulee Funeral Home, is in charge of arrangements. Graveside services and internment will be at the Rice family farm in Douglas County.
