Leo Daines Perkes, 83 a former Hyde Park dairy farmer, died Wednesday Feb. 8, 1989, in the Logan Valley Nursing Center.
He was born Dec. 25, 1903 in Hyde Park, a son of James William and Emma Daines Perkes. He married Ordis Waite on Jan. 4, 1927 in Logan. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
He was a lifelong resident of Hyde Park and attended schools in Cache Valley. He was a dairy farmer all of his life and was noted for his high quality dairy cattle and horses.
He was president of Cache County Dairy Herdsmen Improvement association for many years and a member and secretary of the State Dairy Herdsmen Improvement association Board. He was president and a board member of two of the irrigation companies serving Hyde Park. He was also a member and president of the Hyde Park zoning board.
He was an active member of the LDS Church and served as financial clerk in the Hyde Park 1st Ward many years. At the time of his death he was a home teacher and a high priest in the Hyde Park 1st Ward.
Survivors include his wife of Hyde Park; four sons and daughter-in-law, LaMon and Anna Jean Perkes and Joseph and Carol Perkes, all of Hyde Park; Ferron and Alona Perkes and Lynn and Kris Perkes, all of North Logan; three daughters and two sons-in-law. Cecil and Mary Balls and Clarice Downs, all of Hyde Park; and Dale and Darlene Read, Smithfield; 33 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; two sisters, one son-in-law and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Hyde Park 1st Ward chapel, 65 E. Center, Hyde Park, with Bishop Stuart Howell conducting. Friends may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center, Logan, from ;7 to 9 p.m. and at the ward chapel Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Hyde Park Cemetery.
