Obituary for Chester V. Tuttle
Chester V. Tuttle, son of Lemmon and Filora Tuttle, was born on the old home farm near Pleasant Lake, Indiana, July 8, 1847 and died at his home in Pleasant Lake, Sunday, December 7, 1902, aged 55 years, 4 months and 29 days. At the age of sixteen he enlisted in the Seventh Indiana Cavalry and served until the close of the war. Since that time he has been actively identified with the business interests of his home town and won for himself the trust and respect of his fellowmen. As a token of the confidence placed in him, he was elected treasurer of Steuben county, and discharged the duties of the office for two terms with honor to himself and to the satisfaction of the public. He was an honored member of the Masonic and Odd Fellow lodges, and also of the Grand Army. He was a warm friend and genial, upright citizen and will be greatly missed in the home and community. During the past few months his suffering was intense, but he bore it heroically, expressing confidence in a future life. He leaves a wife, four sons, two sisters and a brother, besides a large number of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Baptist Church at Pleasant Lake, Elder C.S. Medbury officiating, assisted by Rev. Fry.

Chester V. Tuttle was born July 8, 1847 in Steuben Township and married Tillie Belles, daughter of George and Caroline (Bridinger) Belles, born March 22, 1847 in Portage County, Ohio. He served in the 7th Indiana Calvary until the close of the Civil War and afterwards ran a mercantile business and a farm. Chester V. Tuttle was appointed County Treasurer in 1888, serving two terms. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, the Masons and the Odd Fellows. He died December 7, 1902 and she on August 23, 1932, they are buried in Pleasant Lake Cemetery. They had 4 children.
