Stephen S. Bryant enlisted as a private at Vincennes, Indiana, August 31, 1861, and was mustered into Company B, 33rd Indiana Infantry. His brother, Silas, served alongside him in the same regiment. Private Bryant was mustered out at Atlanta, Georgia, September 19, 1864. After the war he headed west. Stephen was a miner at Tombstone, Arizona, in the 1880's, where he appeared on the 1886 membership roster of Tombstone's Burnside Post, Grand Army of the Republic. Stephen filed for a Civil War veteran's pension and received certificate No. 1,109,975. He was a teamster living in Arizona when he was admitted to the Pacific Branch, National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, at Sawtelle, California, on March 20, 1911. He remained at the Sawtelle Home until he died on May 20, 1915. Stephen S. Bryant was survived by his brother, Silas Harrison Bryant, of Brawley, Imperial County, California. Silas is also buried in this cemetery. Stephen was never married.
