Henry A. Osterhaus, 91, Sabetha, Kansas, formerly of St. Benedict, Kansas, died February 13, 1994 at the Sabetha Community Hospital, in Sabetha Kansas. He had been in the Sabetha Manor Care Home for 8 years.

Henry was born January 11, 1903 in Seneca, Kansas the son of Henry J. Osterhaus and Bernadine (Rottinghaus)Osterhaus. He attended school through the eighth grade at the Rock School north of Seneca.

Henry married Francis Holthaus on April 29, 1930, in Baileyville, Kansas, she preceded Henry in death on July 28, 1981.

Henry was a farmer and stockman for many years in the St. Benedict area and had done carpentry work.

Henry was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sabetha, Kansas, and had been a member of the St. Mary's Parish in St. Benedict for many years when he was living in the area. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, he was the caretaker for the St. Mary's Cemetery in St. Benedict for many years and had been on the school board for the Rock School District No. 68.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; two sons, Edward who died at the age of nine in 1936, and Joseph, who died at birth in 1932.

He is survived by six sons, Robert Osterhaus, Liberty, Nebraska, Marvin Oseterhaus, Dewitt,Nebraska, Richard Osterhaus, Phillipsberg, Kansas, Jerry Osterhaus, Axtell,
Kansas, Dennis Osterhaus, Sabetha, Kansas, and Henry Osterhaus, Dawson, Nebraska; six daughters, Deloris Brucken, Solider, Kansas, JoAnn Sandmann, Blue Rapids, Kansas, Mildred Eisenbarth, Hoyt, Kansas, Sister Immaculata D.D.J., Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sharon Broxterman, Sabetha, Kansas and Jeanette Koch, Kansas City, Missouri; 51 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, February 15, 1994 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with Father Henry Deters and Father Conrad Pillard conducted the Mass.
Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, St Benedicts, Kansas.
