Funeral for Mrs. Jesse Winslow Bewley, 80, who had resided in Sheridan for more than 60 years, was held Tuesday, June 15, at the Sheridan Methodist church, with Rev. C.R. Davenport officiating. Burial was in Sheridan Masonic cemetery. Mrs. Bewley, who had not been well for some time, died suddenly June 10 at her home.
Born July 15, 1867, in Kokomo, Ind., she came in 1887 to Sheridan with her parents, Hezekiah and Angeline Winslow, Prominent residents of the community for many years.
Her marriage in Sheridan to James William Bewley was an event of October 2, 1890. Three daughters were born to them, Mrs. Flora Williams of Portland and Miss Lillian Bewley of Sheridan, who survive, and Mrs. Linna Mabal, who died February 16, 1930. Mrs. Bewley's husband died May 18, 1930.
Mrs. Bewley was active in many community activities. She was a past president of the Women's Relief corps and a member of the Methodist church of Sheridan. She was once chosen as the Pioneer Mother for the celebration of the General Phil Sheridan Days.
Besides her two daughters, a sister, Mrs. Sadie Manning of Tacoma, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
