Cletus Leo Hansel, 73, of Guttenberg, died to this world on May 6, 2009, after a long illness.

Funeral services at the United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Kim Wilson.

Burial: Hansel Cemetery, Garber, IA.

Arrangements are with Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Guttenberg.

The son of Warren and Helene Hansel, Cletus was born June 1, 1935, in rural route Edgewood.

He attended country school for eight years and graduated from Edgewood High School. Cletus was a fishing guide in Canada before joining the United States Army in January 1955 for two years.

Cletus was united in marriage with Penny Wilson at the Edgewood United Methodist Church on March 27, 1955, by the Rev. Lawrence Marshburn. To this union were born three sons: Steven Leo, David Joe and Jeffery Douglas.

Cletus with his wife, Penny, owned and operated Hansel's Fishing Camp, south of Guttenberg, for 12 years. Cletus and his family moved to the city of Guttenberg in December 1968. They lived in Ames from December 1976 until May 1979 and in Collins, Iowa, from June 1990 until August 1997, when they returned to Guttenberg.

Cletus was baptized in Guttenberg and was a member of the Guttenberg United Methodist Church.

Cletus is survived by his wife, Penny; three sons, Steven (Barbara) Hansel of Guttenberg, David (Brenda) Hansel of Hills, Minn., and Jeffery of Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Warren Scott (special friend PJ Garner) Hansel, Sherman, S.D., Becky Katy (Chris) Miller, Waterloo, Whitney (Seamus O'Brien) Hansel, Dubuque, Kelsey (Peter) Coates, Sioux Falls S.D., Caleb Hansel, Ely, Minn., McKenna Hansel, Guttenberg, and Heather Hansel, Hills, S.D.; one great-grandson, Ronan O'Brien; and one brother, Terry (Connie) Hansel, Central City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
