Bessie M. Mills, 87, of Fremont died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Nye Pointe Health & Rehabilitation Center in Fremont.
She was born March 24, 1922, in Blair. She grew up in Blair. She moved to Rockford, Ill., and then moved to Fremont in 1946.
She married Barton Mills in Fremont. They were married 25 years. He died March 21, 1980.
She was a former member of First Christian Church in Blair. She was a housekeeper and a baby sitter. She also worked for the Fremont Parks and Recreation Department for several years.
Survivors include: two daughters, Norma Mackey and Charlene (and husband, Arnold) Shandera, all of Fremont; four grandchildren, Lori Hennessey and Shelli (and husband, Tom) Wagner, all of Fremont, Mike (and wife, Kelly) Shandera of Lincoln and Kathy Mackey of Fremont; six great-grandchildren, Jeremy (and wife, Carrie) Hennessey of Duluth, Minn., Lindsay (and husband, Ryan) Carpenter of Cedar Bluffs, Alicia and Amelia Wagner of Fremont and Morgan and Cole Shandera of Lincoln; two great-great-grandchildren, Ashland Carpenter and Hattie Hennessey; and a sister-in-law, Dorothea Eliassen of Beaverton, Ore.
She also was preceded in death by four brothers, Jim, Charles, Frances and George Eliassen; and four sisters, Etta Johnson, Tillie Dunn, Dorothy Anderson and Maude Eliassen.
The graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. The Rev. James Jost will officiate.
Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
