Charles C Alley was born in Ireland to John Alley and Jane Anna Sides. In 1856 Charles, Frederick and Mary Jane Alley came to America. John, Henry and Matilda went to New Zealand and Frances and Eliza went to Australia. Charles went to Wisconsin and then Nebraska. He was in the Civil War Staff Sgt 5th Iowa. He married Zaider Irene Judd 31 Oct 1867 Brownville, Nemaha, NE. They have 8 children Charles H, Agnes, Alice, Mary, Marguaritte, John P, Ann, Grace. The children were all born in Nebraska and then the family traveled through Oklahoma to Texas and then back to Oklahoma. Charles and his daughters were in Colorado Springs for the 1900 census and then moved on to California. Mary, Marguaritte, and Anne were not married in 1900 and may have never married. I know for sure that Mary did not get married and died in Oklahoma

He enlisted from Brownville, Ia. at 29 as a Pvt. in Co. "C", 5th Iowa Cav. on 8 Oct. 1861. Promoted QM Sgt. 1 April 1862; 1st Sgt. 1 Feb. 1863. Reenlisted 14 Jan 1864. Later promoted 2nd and 1st Lt., but never mustered at those ranks. Mustered out 11 Aug. 1865 at Nashville. Charles wrote a diary during the Civil War some of which is online.

As far as I know there are 3 daughters who never married. I do not know where they are buried. Mary, Margarite, Ann
