OBITUARY: Augustus F. Vogler was born on Sept. 9, 1866, at Miltonsburg, Ohio and died March 11, 1931, in the Saint Thomas hospital in Akron, OH., following an operation for an abcess on is left lung.
He was 64 yrs, 7 mo. & 2 days old: was the oldest son of Valentine & Mary A. Vogler. He eas of German descent, his being a native of Germany, his mother of Albany, N. Y. He entered the oil industry at the age of 20 years and operated extensively and often successfully throughout the Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky fields, going to Oklahoma in Sept., 1914, where he soon became the possessor of large holdings.
He returned here in the Spring of 1915 and on April 28 married Miss May C. Gregory. They returned to Oklahoma and made their home in Tulsa for 11 yrs.; then moved to Boynton, where they resided for nearly 3 years.
In the year 1912 his health began to fail and continued growing worse from year to year. On July 31, 1929 they returned here (Monticello, Ky.) and while his health improved some after coming here he never was able to enter the business world again.
October 23 of last year he went to the the home of his sister, Mrs. Anna (S. O.) Daugherty, in Akton, Ohio. He was placed in the care of Dr. Warren Killway, Akron's famous surgeon, where for a time he seemed to grow better. In November, 1930 he developed pneumonia and was removed to St. Thomas Hospital. The X-ray revealed an abcess on the left lung. Specialist after specialist was called in and operation followed operation, and every thing that love or money could do was done to restore him to health. But it was not to be. The time had come when the Master saw fit to call him home.
He often expressed a desire to get well, that he might live and take care of his family, but if he was always to be an invalided he didn't want to live any longer. He was ready and willing to go when the Master said "Come" and passed away as peacefully as one going to sleep.
That he was a faithful and devoted father and husband, to those who knew him, this need not be told. He had a warm and generous heart which was easily touched by the needs of his fellowman, and the sick, the poor and distressed he never turned away without assistance were it in his power to do so.
While his latter years may not have been a financial success, he has left a legacy of noble deeds that has lightened and brightened the lives of many persons about him and will live on for a generation, or long after his body has moldered back to dtst.
He became a member of the Catholic church at the of 15 years, and remained loyal to that faith until the day of his death.
Beside his wife he is survived by one daughter, Edna Mae, and three sons, Roy, Harry and Earl: three brothers, John G. Vogler, of this city (Monticello, Ky.), Joe A Vogler, Louisville, and Fred J. Vogler, Decter City, Ohio: two sisters, Mrs. Anna (S. O.)Dougherty, Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Elizabeth (W. B.) Ullom, Ravenna, Ohio.
Funeral services were cionducted from St. Marth's Catholic Church in Akron, Saturday, March 14, 1931, with burial in the family cemetery at Ravenna, Ohio. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Robert Dougherty, Hugh Bakjer, Clarence Stine, Edward Barr, Nathan Dougherty and Samuel Stine.
