John Morgan Bilbrey is the son of Richard P Bilbrey and Mary Elizabeth Whitaker born in Overton county on Aug 9, 1885. During War War I John went to the student Union Army training at the Rose Polytechnic Institute in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was only there for a few months at the end of the war. He was discarged the next month. In 1926, John jonied the National Guard unit in Cookeville, TN. There he served with the unit whe they were called to riot duty at Wilder, TN, the Mississipi River flood in 1937, and the thrid Army maneuvers in the De Soto National Forest in Mississippi in 1939.

John married Frances Lucinda Dunavin on Mar 19, 1927 in Cookeville, Putnam, Tennessee. They had three children Edward, Florence, and Leonard Bilbrey. John Morgan supported the family as a Jaller at the Putnam County jail.

John lost his life on Sept 4, 1942, while working when an out-of-control gasoline tanker hit the front of the jail, killing him Instantly.
