Former Hardeman County Magistrate, C.M. "Cheek" Atkeison died Wednesday at Methodist Hospital in Memphis of complications of a stroke. He was 84. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Shackelford Funeral Home of Bolivar with burial in Rehobeth Cemetery in Fayette County. Mr. Atkeison retired after more than 20 years as owner and operator of Atkeison Grocery in Hickory Valley. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Somerville. He served four years as a county magistrate in the 1960s. He was a native of the Somerville area and had lived in Hardeman County since 1953. Mr. Atkeison, the husband of Ruby Graham Atkeison, also leaves a daughter, Pattie Atkeison Deming of Memphis; a brother, Henry C. Atkeison of Nashville, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family requests any memorials be sent to Rehobeth Cemetery Fund or First Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
