Marlin R. Billings, 77, died Jan. 14, 2005, at his home, Hutchinson.
He was born May 11, 1927, at Willard, the son of Merrill Stevens and Nora Merle Riley Billings. A longtime Hutchinson resident, he was a music teacher.
He received his Bachelors in Music Education from Washburn University, Masters in Music Education from the University of Kansas, and Bachelors in Counseling from Wichita State University. He was Band Director for LeRoy School from 1949-1953, Band Director for Harper Schools 1953-1961, Band Director for Hutchinson Central Junior High and High School 1961-1973, and Counselor and Activities Director for Burrton and Inman Schools 1973-1989.
He belonged to First United Methodist Church, National Educational Association, Life Member of the VFW, American Legion, and was a past member of the Lions, Masonic Lodge, Moose, and Elks.
On Aug. 21, 1947, he married Beverly Jean Weekes at Topeka. She preceded him in death April 7, 2000.
Survivors include a son, Steven, Opelousas, La.; a daughter, Ramona Getz, Hutchinson; a brother, Galen, Bonner Springs; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gable Funeral Home and Crematory, with Chaplain Fred Obold presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Penwell-Gable Memorial Park Cemetery.
