Edgar Hill, aged 18 years, son of Mrs Harriett Hill of this city, was killed in the Southern railway yards, near Morgan street crossing at Knoxville, Monday evening at 6:20 o'clock by a yard engine, he being a switchman and had only been in the service three days. The yard engine had been running east through the yard and was just west of Morgan street at a switch when the rail plate which holds the switch point, broke and derailed the front trucks of the engine. On the front running board were three switchman, Hill being in the center. The two end men jumped, but Hill did not have an opportunity to escape before the boards which guard the rails at the crossing caught the running board of the engine, tore it off, and carried Hill under the front part of the engine. The deceased had formerly been a news agent on the train. He was well known here where his mother and relatives reside. The remains were brought to Clinton Tuesday morning and conveyed to the family residence. The funeral services were conducted at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon at the family residence in North Clinton by rev M C Bruner, pastor of the M E church. The remains were then taken to Sunset cemetery for burial.
