Obituary of Mrs. Allen Applegate.
__Mary Jane Chase was born in Clinton county, Indiana, Aug. 26, , 1851. She was the daughter of George B. and Martha A. (Anderson) Chase. When five years old, she moved, with her parents, to Madison county, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood, and where she was married January 6, 1869, to Allen Applegate.
__Soon after their marriage they moved to Cherokee county, Iowa, where they lived for twelve years, returning to Madison county, and living there for thirteen years. They moved from Madison county the second time, and located in Mercer county, Missouri and lived there for seven years, and then came to Cedar Rapids, where they made their home. Mr. Applegate preceeded his wife in death on February 11, 1909.
__When a young girl, Mrs. Applegate united with the Methodist church, and has always been an active member in this organization.
__Her greatest plaesure was in both the religious and social circles of the church. At the time of her death she was a member of the St. James M. E. church, and also of the W. C. T. U. and then W. R. C.
__Three daughters, Mrs. Ira A. Moore, Mrs. George E. Nelson, and Mrs. Carl Lorenzen, all of this city and an adopted son, Charles E. Stafford, of Monmouth, Ill., two sisters, Mrs. J. L. Semmons, of Woodward, Okla., and Mrs. Henry Porter, of Tulare, Colo. Two brothers H. A. Chase, of Mason City, Neb., and Edward W. Chase, of Winterset, Ia., survive her.
__The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the St. James Methodist church, Rev. Doner will officiate and interment will be made in Linwood cemetery.
