Hazel D. Dormer, 88, of Colon, passed away May 3, 2009 at the Laurels of Coldwater. She was born September 18, 1920 in Caryville, TN to Robert and Becky (Lowe) Mefford. She married Dale Dormer on June 26, 1937 in Marcellus, MI. He preceded her in death in 2003. Hazel came to Michigan when she six years old and grew up in the Union City area. She attended Union City High School and Kellogg Community School of Nursing and became an LPN. She worked at the Coldwater Regional Center for 17 years and the Adventist Hospital in Battle Creek for 16 years, retiring in 1992. She is survived by two sons; Robert of Vermontville, Louis (Cathy) of Kokomo, IN; a daughter-in-law, Linda Dormer of Union City; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Ray Mefford of Colon; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale; son, Bruce; grandson, David; a sister, Dallas Austin; two brothers, Oscar and Richard Mefford; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Dormer. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 6, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Putnam Funeral Home in Union City. Services will be held on May 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Putnam Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Halbleib officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Union City. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
