Services for Uland Oliver Scott will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Wayne Edwards and Dr. Keith Grubbs officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Scott, 87, of Meridian, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at his residence. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of Midway Baptist Church, St. Johns Masonic Lodge, and the Timberwolves Association. He was retired from Trailways Bus Lines and Lauderdale County. Survivors include his daughters, Patsy John and Peggy Carpenter, both of Meridian; son Charles "Chuck" Scott, of Somervile, Ala.; grandchildren, Billy John Jr., Pam John Scarbrough, and Clint Carpenter, all of Meridian; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved companion, Lavonia Russell, of Little Rock. Memorials may be made to St. Judes Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Pallbearers will be Billy John Jr., Duane Stephens, Danny Cooley, Michael John, Darron Scarbrough and David Oliver. Visitation will be today, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
