Roy LaVere Tapp, age 77, passed away in the loving arms of his wife March 31, 2001 of complications from a prolonged illness.
He was born in Holladay, Utah September 4, 1923 to George and Matilda Ince Tapp. He joined Roosevelt's CCC program when he was 16 years old and eventually volunteered for service during World War II. He was a gunner in the Army.
He married Audry Marie Gunderson June 8, 1946 and had three daughters. This did not stop him from teaching each to become expert fishermen and construction workers. He worked for Jacobsen Construction for 40 years, participating on such prominent projects as the Huntsman Center, the Church Office Building underground parking lot and several LDS Temples. A perfect day for Roy had to include a fishing trip to Scofield Reservoir or Burriston Ponds and definitely included playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Perhaps his proudest moment was surviving his Golden Anniversary with his wife. Though his presence will be missed, his spirit will live on in each of our hearts.
Survived by his wife of 55 years, Audrey Marie; daughters, Penny (Kelly) Atkinson; Shauna (Bill) Keil, Susan (Jim) Andrew; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; David Connell; many nieces and nephews.
At Roy;s request, his body will be donated to the University of Utah Medical Center for research.
