Thomas L. Splechter, 84, of Yates Center, Kansas, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center, Chanute, Kansas.

He was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Edwardsville, Kansas, the son of Edward E. and Celia M. (Kiser) Splechter.

At an early age he moved with his family to Earlton, KS, and then to a farm near Thayer, KS. In 1968 he moved from Fredonia, KS to Yates Center.

In 1948 he married Mary North in Fredonia, Kansas. She survives at the home.

He worked for the Union Gas Company for 37 years and retired in 1988.

He liked to fish.

Other survivors include three sons, Robert, Benedict, Thomas L. "Tom" Jr., and Ed and wife, Tracy, all of Yates Center, KS; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Frank and John, died earlier.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center, KS. Interment will be in Fredonia City Cemetery, Fredonia, Kansas.

Memorials to Friends for Life may be left at the funeral home.
