Mary Bess Colville

Mary Bess Bryson Colville, 92, of Wake Robin Drive, Cullowhee, died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at her residence.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, in the chapel of Melton Funeral Home with the Rev. David Reeves officiating.

Burial was in Fairview Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were members of Cullowhee United Methodist Church.

She was born in Cullowhee on May 8, 1916, to the late James Rucius Bryson and Pauline Davis Bryson. She received her undergraduate degree from Western Carolina Teacher's College and a master's degree in special education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For 35 years, she taught special education in the school systems of Winston-Salem, Burlington and High Point. She retired in 1976 and returned to Western North Carolina. She was a member of Cullowhee United Methodist Church and was an honorary member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Ellen Jamie Brown; and one brother, James Davis Bryson.

Surviving are one son, James Bryson Colville of the home; and one daughter, Mary Pauline Colville of Raleigh and Cullowhee.
