Calvin, the son of Andrew Thomas and Wincey Carmilia (Stevenson) Barron, was born in Washington Co, AR, about 1864, the youngest of three siblings: Lavina, Lamesa, & William.

He married Caroline Carmelia Bell, the daughter of Malichi & Mary Etta Ann (Clemmons) Bell, in Crawford Co, AR, on October 8, 1883. She was about 18 years old, and he was about 19.

They had five boys and two girls:
Arthur Harlan Barron (1883 - 1942)
Oscar Barron (1884 - )
Ernest Oswell Barron (1886 - 1967)
Aaron Otto Barron (1892 - 1945)
Audrey Virginia Barron Snodgrass (1895 - 1972)
Artie Hester Barron Stephens (1899 - 1966)
Victor Homer Barron (1900 - 1960)

By September 1902, the family was destitute and on their way to Texas to join their 19-year-old son, Arthur. They were having trouble finding enough food for the children and their animals. To make matters worse, their horse died, and with only a mule left to pull the wagon, Calvin took his place alongside the mule. The situation was so overwhelming, that Caroline's mind finally snapped, and she murdered Calvin on the night of September 25, 1902, while he was sleeping. Their youngest son, Victor, had just turned two the previous month.

Caroline was found to be insane and was sent to Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington D.C. Her sister, Cordelia, and others helped raise her children.
