Henry Aker married Matilda Hackenberg 13 May 1845 in Lake Township, Stark County, Ohio. They moved to Clearspring Township, Lagrange County, IN in about 1859 and resided next to Matilda's parents just north of Hackenberg Lake until 28 Jan 1862 when Henry sold his land to his father-in-law, Jacob Hackenberg, and moved to Syracuse to practice Law.
During the Civil War Henry enlisted in Company B, of Indiana 152nd Infantry Regiment as a musician on 17 Feb 1865. The regiment saw duty at Charleston, Stevenson's Station, Summit Point and Clarksburg, West Virginia between 18 Mar 1865 until it was mustered out on 30 Aug 1865 at Clarksburg, WV.
