Howard D. Baker of Luther, Michigan, entered eternal life on Thursday April 16, 2009 at his residence. He was 72 years old. He was a U.S. Veteran.
Howard was born May 10, 1936 in Luther to Norman and Marian (Stapish) Baker and was a 1954 graduate of Luther High School. He operated a dairy farm with his brother for many years and was employed with the Lake County Road Commission for 25 years retiring in 1993. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of LeRoy and was active on the Church Council. He was also active with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in Luther and his interest in sports often found him in either the press box or along the sidelines, tending yard markers at Pine River Football games. He will be greatly missed by his dogs Maggie and Shelby.
Howard was married September 7, 1957 to Janet Ann Beals who survives. Also surviving are sons Kurt and wife Cindy of Pt. Huron and Keith and wife Marcia of Grand Rapids; grandsons Calvin, Ben, Zach and Tim; brothers Richard and Kenneth and wife Sharon all of Luther; sisters Donna Kipp of Marshall, Marjorie (Rolf) Conner of Cave Creek, Az. And Shirley (Edwin) Draper of Garland, Tx.; and sisters in law Elaine Baker of Grand Rapids and Beryl (Ray) Langley of Brigstock, England.
Funeral services will be held Saturday April 18, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church, LeRoy with Rev. Del Hudson officiating. Friends may call after 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
