Charles M. Byrd, 64, prominent farmer of this section passed away early this morning at his home on Alum Springs road, his death was due to complications that caused him to become ill health the past two years but it was not until two weeks a that he became seriously ill. Byrd was born in Montgomery county, near New River, the son of Daniel Byrd & Ellen Thompson Byrd, came to this section in 1918 and has been one of the leading farmers of the county since that time. Up until two years ago, the time of his illness, he took an active part in the social and agricultural work of the community and was highly respected by all with whom he came in touch. The deceased is survived by Mrs. Emma Silvers Byrd, his wife, and the following children, Mrs. J. Edward Tickle, Miss Lucile Byrd, L.R. Byrd, C.G. Byrd, H.J. Byrd, all of Pulaaki; Mrs. W.H. Saunders, of Baltimore, MD, and H.W. Byrd, of Roanoke. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters, John Byrd, Big Ben, KS; George Byrd, Hydro, OK; Miss Nannie Byrd, Snowville and Mrs. Sarah Akers, Buena Vista. Active pall bearers, J.R. Byrd, H.C. Jackson, T.W. Mashbum, W.W. Lyons, A.B. Hunt and T.W. Morefield. Honorary pall bearers: T.W. Whitaker, J.B. Snider, G.E. Kinser, M.W. Bolt, J.D. Wilson, Dr. W.L. Owens, Dr. R.H. Woolling , W.H. Wysor, S.W. Cecil and J.N. Bosang. Flower girls, Ruby Graham, Mrs. Mable Elkins, Araminta Durham, Polly Kasey, Doty Jackson and Marie Hardy.
